Introduction to PG research degrees

There is enormous variation between individuals and across research disciplines and topics, but the characteristics generally needed for PG research study/ training are, to varying degrees:

acumen
strong enthusiasm for research
a foundation of research skills training on which to build (preferably MSc)
willingness to engage with the team-based nature of research
receptiveness to the advice of others who are more research-experienced than oneself
self-reliance/resourcefulness
conscientiousness
resilience.

These are the skills and qualities needed to ensure not just successful study that contributes to knowledge, but also an enjoyable and life-enhancing experience. CHS/CPHS welcomes enquiries from prospective students who feel they match the above 'profile' for PG research.
