In 2002 a Centre for Public Health and Primary Care Research was set up, to bring together researchers active in public health and primary care research, drawn mainly from investigators in the division of Community Health Sciences (CHS). However, by 2008 there was an increasing trend for multidisciplinary research between Centre investigators (epidemiologists, statisticians and social scientists in public health and primary care) and biomedical scientists and clinicians throughout the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine. Therefore a decision was made to re-focus the Centre to reflect this shift in research activity.
In late 2008 the existing centre was therefore re-named the Centre for Population Health Sciences (CPHS). CPHS is linked to both:
The Centre for Population Health Sciences (CPHS) brings together researchers active in population health sciences research, including public health and primary care research. Members of CPHS are drawn mainly from investigators in Community Health Sciences (CHS), a division of the School of Clinical Sciences and Community Health within the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine. CHS comprises two sections, Public Health Sciences (PHS) and General Practice (GP).
The mission of the Centre for Population Health Sciences is to:
The work of the Centre for Population Health Sciences (CPHS) is closely inter-linked with the work of CHS, with considerable overlap in personnel, so that they are best managed jointly. This is achieved via a CHS/CPHS Executive Committee, chaired jointly by the Director of CPHS and the Head of CHS, and with Heads of Sections ex officio members of the Committee.
